Choosing an ESC for a brushless motor

An electronic speed controller must match the motor, battery and control system. This collection includes ESC listings and related speed-control products; check each item’s supported motor type before choosing it.

• Check supported battery cell count or input-voltage range.
• Select a current rating appropriate to the motor and intended load.
• Confirm the control protocol, connectors and firmware requirements.
• Verify whether a BEC is included and its output rating if one is needed.

Compare brushless DC motors, batteries and cells and the specified connectors when planning a drone or RC installation. For brushed DC motors, review motor drivers and PWM controllers instead. Use the manufacturer’s ratings for the complete combination; connector fit alone does not establish compatibility.
