HC06 Bluetooth Serial Module: Compatibility and Voltage Checks

Bluetooth Module HC06 HC 06 in Pakistan

The HC06 Bluetooth serial module is intended for a wireless UART-style data link. It should not be selected as a Bluetooth speaker receiver, a Wi-Fi adapter or an automatic replacement for every HC05 board. Check the host’s supported Bluetooth profile and the exact carrier’s electrical interface before buying.

Confirm the host supports serial Bluetooth

Common HC-06 products use Bluetooth Classic serial-port communication rather than a BLE GATT service. A device seeing the module during scanning does not prove that an application can open its serial channel. Confirm operating-system support and a suitable serial-terminal application on the intended host. Audio streaming is a different profile and is not provided merely by sending UART bytes.

Distinguish carrier power from radio logic

The linked university guide uses a particular breakout with a 5 V supply while explicitly requiring 3.3 V logic or level shifting. That is not permission to power every bare HC-06 radio at 5 V or drive its RX pin directly with 5 V logic. Inspect the actual regulator and board documentation, and reduce controller TX voltage appropriately when required.

Check the direction of each connection

Module TX goes to controller RX, and controller TX goes to module RX through any required level adaptation. Grounds must share the intended reference in this simple non-isolated connection. Keep this UART separate from an RS232 port: matching names such as TX and RX do not make bipolar RS232 signalling compatible with logic-level inputs.

Identify the firmware before configuration

Defaults for name, baud rate and pairing credentials can vary between suppliers and firmware. The linked guide uses 9600 baud as its example, not a universal guarantee. Find documentation matching the received module before changing configuration. Do not assume HC05 KEY-pin procedures or its full command set apply to a four-pin HC06 board.

Budget for the complete link

Include the controller connection, a compatible host, software support and any needed voltage adaptation when comparing cost. Check whether the carrier has soldered headers and whether its antenna will be obscured by metal or enclosed beside noisy wiring. A module listing is not a measured range guarantee in your building.

Keep the first application low risk

Begin with identifiable text messages and verify both directions before controlling hardware. Pair only with the intended device, change configurable default credentials where supported and avoid placing secrets in test traffic. A simple serial Bluetooth module is not, by itself, a secure remote-control system or a suitable sole safety interlock.

Frequently asked questions

Can HC06 receive Bluetooth audio?

A serial-port module is not an audio-profile receiver. Choose a documented audio receiver when audio is the requirement.

Can every HC06 RX input accept 5 V?

Do not assume so. Check the actual radio and carrier documentation and provide suitable level adaptation.

Technical references and test limitations

This guide uses the documentation linked below. The procedures are for a controlled, low-voltage learning setup; no independent hands-on test of the particular seller board is claimed. Record the actual part markings, wiring and firmware version before drawing conclusions from a test.
